  • Connecting Laptop to CDJS, CDJ 900 NXS (Standard Room)
At the moment, you can only connect and use your laptop in HID mode with the equipment in our DJ studios. You will need to bring the following: 3 USB A-B cables, 2 going from your laptop to each CDJ and one for the DJM - they only accept USB B (see picture below). 3 cables are needed because our decks are not linked to the DJM automatically, so each component will need to be connected to your laptop. A USB hub with 3 USB A ports — to connect the CDJs together, with the DJM straight into your laptop OR to connect the CDJs and DJM together into one port of your laptop The full paid version of DJ software such as Rekordbox, Traktor or Serato Windows users only - The updated Pioneer drivers on your laptop
  • Connecting Your Laptop To CDJS , CDJ 3000's (Pro Room)
To use the CDJ 3000s and the DJM mixer as controllers for your DJ software such as Serato, Rekordbox or Traktor, the process is virtually the same as for CDJ 900 NXS and is named HID mode. You will need to bring the following: 3 USB A-B cables, 2 going from your laptop to each CDJ and one for the DJM - they only accept USB B (see picture below). 3 cables are needed because our decks are not linked to the DJM automatically, so each component will need to be connected to your laptop. A USB hub with 3 USB A ports — to connect the CDJs together, with the DJM straight into your laptop OR to connect the CDJs and DJM together into one port of your laptop The full paid version of DJ software such as Rekordbox, Traktor or Serato Windows users only - The updated Pioneer drivers on your laptop In short, the connection takes places with each USB A-B cable connecting into the USB hub and into the laptop (or the DJM directly into it and the CDJ into the USB hub), as shown below:
  • New To DJing?
We've got you covered, we've found these helpful videos that will help you along the way. Step 1: Exporting Music to a USB Part 2 - CDJs All You Need To Know Part 3 - Pioneer CDJ & Mixer Walkthrough
  • There is no sound coming through the speakers?
Don't worry check these steps first Please make sure to have tracks playing on both CDJs first. If you have no sound coming out of the speakers 1. Check the speakers are powered on They should have LED lights on the front of them. There is a switch on the back of the speaker itself, as well as one on the socket at the wall. 2.Check the channels of the DJM There is a mode selection dial at the top of each channel. Select LINE if using a USB stick. If using a laptop, select A or B depending on which port (A or B) your 3rd USB cable from your laptop goes into on the DJM. If you're in our Leeds location, please set all dials to DIGITAL instead. 3. Check the CDJs are routed into the Line In ports on the back of the DJM here should be a red and white RCA cable going from the Audio Out ports on the CDJ to the Line In ports on the back of the DJM. If you're in Leeds, make sure there are two single RCA pins coming from both CDJ that are connected to two DIGITAL inputs, in the bottom right part of the back of the DJM, eg. DIGITAL CH 1 and DIGITAL CH2.
  • The speakers have a strange distortion sound
If you are hearing distortion, please turn down the TRIM knob on each channel, making sure the channels' LED aren't turning red - they should stay green. If that's too low in volume, turn up the MASTER volume knob instead. It's the one to the right of channel 4. If you are experiencing distortion and you are playing from your laptop (ie. via Serato, Rekordbox or Traktor) it's most likely that the Master output volume on your software is too loud. Find the Master volume knob on your software (eg. in Traktor is at the top of the window) and turn it down until you hear no more distortion. Make sure to double check the DJM's grey TRIM knobs and its MASTER volume knob too - they should all light up green LEDs only.
  • What to bring?
When you go to a DJ room at Sleepless Studios, make sure to bring your own wired headphones with a 3.5mm or quarter-inch jack, including an adapter just in case. You'll also need to bring your music, which can be on a USB stick formatted in FAT32, a laptop with all necessary cables and software. Check Sleepless Studios' website for a complete list of what's available in your booked room and any additional items you might need.
  • Are there mics in the room?
In our standard & pro DJ Studios there are mic that are plugged into the mixers which you can use.
  • Why are speakers not going louder?
As we're a 24 hour studio in a residential area we need to protect the peace and quiet. Therefore there is a limiter on the speakers which will limit the sound. Red lining the mixer will cause sound distortion and degrade the mixer sound quality.
  • How do I format/export tracks to a USB drive correctly?
Before your session at Sleepless Studios, if you're using a USB stick with CDJs, ensure it's formatted to FAT32 to avoid data loss (back up your data first!). Only FAT32 works reliably on all Pioneer CDJs. Transfer your tracks from your laptop to the USB using Rekordbox. Choose a high-quality USB brand like SanDisk to minimize corruption risks. There are helpful videos on formatting and exporting tracks to your USB drive available from the original source.
  • Do you provide headphones with the studios?
No, you must bring your own headphones to the session. Our DJMs have both a 3.5mm and 1/4' jack input, but we always recommend bringing a headphone adaptor just in case.
